Scenario #11: Exaggeration/Grotesque

This is cartoonish comedy: caricatures, gross-outs, tall tales, bad luck surpassing belief. Think of Homer Simpson's thick-headedness, or Itchy and Scratchy's horrific overkill; Monty Python; Sunset Boulevard and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Write hyperbolically. Characters aren't just dumb, but the dumbest people in the world; not simply poor, but so hard-up they live in a puddle, carve a pea into fifths, or eat pictures of food. Imagine the wildly fidgety man at an auction; the glutton who literally explodes in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life; a really, really dense cowpoke in the city; an impossibly prudish aunt.

Suggested viewing: Strangers with Candy.

Assignment: Write a scene about the dirtiest, or the cleanest, or the weirdest, or the richest, or the unluckiest, or the sweetest people on earth.
